ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE! – ANNOUNCEMENT #1

Cinderella features a number of performers in the ENSEMBLE. What is an ensemble? What will be required when preparing for auditioning for the Ensemble of Cinderella (Sept. 2, 3, 4)?

Significance of the Ensemble

  • The ensemble is not just a background element; they are integral to the storytelling.
  • Their movements, singing, and acting help to create the atmosphere and energy of the musical.
  • They help to move the plot forward and support the main characters.

Roles within the Ensemble:

The ensemble in Cinderella plays a wide variety of roles, including:

  • Knights and Peasants: These characters help establish the setting of the kingdom and its social structure.
  • Townspeople: They populate the town square and provide context for the story.
  • Ladies and Gentlemen of the Court: These characters add to the grandeur and formality of the royal scenes.
  • Servants: They are part of the household staff and often interact with Cinderella.
  • Creatures (Giant, Griffin): These roles may be part of specific scenes or dream sequences, adding a touch of fantasy.

Preparing for the Vocal Audition:

Katie, our Music Director, would like to hear everyone in a solo format. Here are some of her words of wisdom in preparing for your vocal audition, whether for Ensemble or a featured role: People should come prepared with a max of 2 minutes of music prepared, with either track or sheet music accompaniment.  No a capella singing please.  I prefer Golden Age Musicals (mid 1940’s – mid 1960’s) for audition material to help show us their awesome full sound, rather than a contemporary musical theatre piece that showcases their belt.  Some belt in the mix is cool but prefer more head tone in the mix than chest.

VOCAL AUDITIONS FOR FEATURE ROLES

Please review Katie’s preparation tips in the Ensemble notes above. Additionally, if you prefer to sing something from the show, Katie suggests the following for each of these roles:

Ella:  Own Little Corner – Bar 66 – end,    A Lovely Night – Bar 1-35

Topher:  Loneliness of Evening – Bar 1 – 38,     Me, Who Am I? – Bar 5 – 31

Lord Pinkleton:   The Prince is Giving A Ball – Bar 76 – 104
