AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

PRIMARY ROLE AUDITIONEES:
These auditions will be in a workshop style format and will be broken into two parts, “private” and “group”.
You must stay the entire hour and 15 minutes you are scheduled.
For the first part of the hour you will be asked to sing your audition song individually while the others in your group wait in the lobby.
The song you choose to sing for your audition is very important.
Any song, any style and any genre is welcome.
This song should demonstrate your vocal abilities at your highest performance level and show your range capabilities, the quality of your voice and your vocal prowess. As well, the ability to convey sincere emotion from one end of the spectrum to another may play an important part in casting this particular show.
Please be prepared to sing your entire song, however, understand that once the auditioning panel has heard a sufficient demonstration of your vocal capabilities you may be asked to stop before the song’s completion.
There will NOT be an accompanist available. You can choose to bring accompaniment on a device (a speaker will be available), or you can sing a cappella.
For the second part you will be called back in with the others scheduled during that time slot and the music director will run through one or two of the show songs with everyone and teach some harmonies. You will then be requested to sing with others in a variety of combinations.
At that time there will be some cold reading with scripts amongst those of you present in that time slot.
Auditions may include group choreography to learn and perform.

Performance resumes with an up to date head shot attached should be attached to your audition form submission.

ENSEMBLE AUDITIONEES:
These auditions will be in a workshop style format.
You will be given a scheduled time to come and audition with a group of up to 12 people.
You must stay the entire hour and 15 minutes you are scheduled.
The music director will pick a section of one, possibly two, of the show ensemble songs and teach you the music and some harmonies.
You will sing with others in your group, not solo.
There may or may not be group choreography to learn and perform as well.
The producer will send you the name of a few songs which the music director may use for the audition when she confirms your audition time.
That way you can familiarize yourself with these songs before you arrive.

Performance resumes with an up to date head shot should be attached to your submitted audition form.

The Production Team

L

Janet Ness - Director

When 10-year old Janet first sang at a fashion show she fell in love with the stage. High school was filled with theatrical experiences. She went on to major in theatre. It was “on the road” singing after that, until she knew she had to share her love of the arts. Enter teaching music, art, and drama and joining community theatre. Regularly now you can find her as vocalist with the Baytowne Big Band or the Cadillac Crew dance band or rehearsing with cohorts in community theatre. Not there? I guess she’s upstairs painting or cooking in the kitchen.

L

Chris Ness - Music Director

Chris loves living in Barrie. Gigs and rusty old motorcycles keep him happy. Now retired from full-time music teaching, team directing community theatre projects with Janet is the icing on his cake. Resident pianist with the Baytowne Big Band, straight guy with Moonglow, and subbing in with Wreckroom Elvis still allow time for Chris and Janet to perform in The Cadillac Crew.
