Kempenfelt Community Players is pleased to present the Young Company Production of their 2012 – 2013 season, HONK! Jr., at Barrie’s Georgian Theatre.

With book and lyrics written by Anthony Drewe and music George Stiles, it is a contemporary retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale “The Ugly Duckling”. There is plenty to love about HONK! Jr. with its delightful characters and a memorable score, this musical features Ugly, a rejected and odd-looking baby duck who finds himself separated from the farm and his mother.

HONK! Jr. celebrates being different, a very timely message considering the headlines of today. Bullying is the most significant theme presented: Ugly is tormented for being different. Yet, along his journey to return home, he discovers the power of true love and acceptance. He also meets a sly tomcat and other barnyard creatures you won’t forget!

“Honk is a wonderful reminder that we need to accept others for who they are and that being different is okay, a message that we hope the audience will take home and apply to their everyday lives” said Janet Ness, Director. “We are really excited to have such a talented group of young performers to put on this fantastic broadway-style show of the Ugly Duckling.”

The talented ALL-YOUTH cast of HONK! Jr. includes Liam Bidmead (Ugly), Nicole Graham (Ida) and Kelly Hay (The Cat). KCP’s first production of the 2012-13 season will be directed by Janet Ness and produced by Sandra Ballantyne and Laurie Falconi. The Director of Music is Chris Ness and the Choreographer is Kieren Day.
